Quantum without solace; superdeterminism and interpretations of quantum mechanics

Shakespeare had the dying Cleopatra talk about “immortal longings” — that seems to me the best way to describe the apparently universal human desire for some kind of transcendence. In the past we had gods; now we have equations (just as we went from gladiator games to horror movies). This, I think, is to some extent a great motivator in science: the search for a unifying principle, for a pure and objective truth.
